Block A at Seaboard Station has really taken shape and I think once that final floor there is completed, the crane will come down. That’ll probably be before the end of the year if I had to bet. Pictured above is the latest project which includes a hotel (on the left) and apartments. (on the right)

Have you been by the North Carolina Capitol lately? The classic looking blue dome (although I sometimes think it’s green at certain times of the day) is being replaced right now with new copper panels. That’s just one of a few other renovations that are coming to our modest, yet architecturally significant, capitol building.

Capital Square, an apartment building with almost 300 homes, is really starting to rise over Dawson Street. This 20-story building broke ground about a year ago and had extensive work done to the foundation. However, it’s been fun to watch it go up, floor by floor, throughout 2023.

Remember The Alexan? The site between West and Harrington Street (or where you used to park when driving to 42nd Street Oyster Bar) is now being cleared. Perhaps this means that the 180 or so apartment building that we saw plans for earlier last year is going to get started.

If you’ve driven, or walked uncomfortably like I did for this photo, down MLK Boulevard around the intersection with Wilmington and Salisbury Streets, you should have spotted this big wooden box looming over the road. Mira Raleigh apartments look to be topping out prominently over the wide avenue and it sure makes an impression.
This could be the first of a few new developments up on that hill as Kindley Street is seeing new development plans work their way through the planning process. Neighbors, as well as nearby Shaw Students, have been crossing MLK for years so I’m sure they can tell you that pedestrian upgrades to the intersection are overdue.
