I spotted this drawing while I was at the Urban Design Center this week. Could this be the first rendering of Union Station? No. I’d put money down that it isn’t. It was just very cool to see it.
The latest is that a downtown design firm Clearscapes and a handful of others were selected in December to design Raleigh Union Station. This is according to a Facebook post.

The Hampton Inn in Glenwood South is now open. For the almost six years that this blog has been running, this is the second hotel opening I’ve seen, the Fayetteville Street Marriott being the first. The next hotel to look out for is a possible Residence Inn on Salisbury Street built near the convention center.
By the way, this post is the 100th Pic of the Week. Woohoo!

This weekend, crews tore up this building at the corner of Wilmington and Martin Streets. The building was deteriorating and because of safety, the owner took this route. Sad to lose it but what can you do if no one is willing to step up and save these structures that are now unsafe to be in.
The building row here is part of the future Edison project, a cluster of buildings around the parking deck on the same block. Skyhouse Apartments, a 264 foot tower, is planned to be built on the same block but at the corner of Martin and Blount Streets.

A crane is up at 425 Boylan. This is one of two cranes in the area that are bringing about 400 apartments to Glenwood South.

Capital Area Transit (CAT) is currently working on a new branding scheme which will include updated brochures, information, and even a bus paint job. CAT painted a single bus in order to get a real-world look at the design. If approved, the whole fleet may one day sport this red and white design. What do you think?

Bolt Bistro and Bar will open soon in the space formerly occupied by The Mint on Fayetteville Street. By open soon, I mean “Late Summer” according to the new sign posted in the space windows. According to the restaurant’s website:
The concept of Bolt is to bring a sleek, clean, approachable, affordable, dining experience to Downtown Raleigh.
Bolt has teamed up with International Culinary Superstar Penny Davidi! Penny and our chefs are working on a local infused menu from North Carolina.
The sign also has a little rendering of the outdoor seating space. Could Bolt finally create a lively outdoor seating scene that The Mint could not?
