North Street Beer Station

The shelves are being filled at the North Street Beer Station, a Glenwood South bottle shop that will officially open within the next few weeks.

It seems we’re working towards each downtown district getting their own bottle shop. Fayetteville Street has Paddy O’Beers. The Warehouse District has Tasty Beverage Company. The Bottle Shop at Tyler’s Taproom is in Seaboard Station. Throw another in City Market and that would round it out.

There’s some good beer drinking to be had in downtown Raleigh. Cheers!

Elan Apartments construction in downtown Raleigh
A crane is up at the site of the Elan Apartments on Wilmington Street. This is one of the quietest projects I’ve ever seen with very little information about it out on the web.

With the potential for many more residents on this end of Peace Street it could significantly increase the pedestrian traffic. Glenwood South and Blount Street Commons are the bookends of Peace Street, the only real east-west connection in northern downtown. That funnel effect may make the street more urban over time, especially after the Capital Boulevard bridge is worked on.

Hillsborough Street

A sunny, winter day along Hillsborough Street.

The rotund building on Hillsborough Street that we all either love or hate has some news this week. The former Clarion hotel has now changed back to a Holiday Inn. This coincides with some renovations to the lobby, rooms, and front entrance including a new sidewalk plaza out front.

Marbles Kid's Museum Expansion

An expansion being done at the Marbles Kid’s Museum. The Kid Grid exhibit will go here, partly thanks to a $1 million grant from ABB, Inc. The Raleigh Public Record reported on this back in July.

Marbles President Sally Edwards said Kid Grid will teach children about the Smart Grid and will be a full representation of the energy system. Edwards said the goal of the exhibit is to introduce children to science and math and encourage them to become engineers in the future.

Here’s a video from WRAL interviewing Edwards about the planned exhibit back during its announcement in 2012.

Thanks for the tip, Brian.
