Tucked just off to the side, but not hidden away, is the newest apartment building to downtown Raleigh. Mira Raleigh brings around 280 homes to Kindley Street. Not familiar with Kindley Street? That’s because it’s basically a dead-end street off Salisbury Street. More plans for the area are in the works which could see this spot have even more development in the future.

It looks like the renovation and restoration work on the NC Capitol building is wrapping up. The construction fencing is down and you can now walk around the square, mostly. This is a good time to snap a photo of the historic capitol while the new copper roof is still showing some shine. Pretty soon, it’ll oxidize and turn that green color we all know.

The end is near for drivers going to and from Seaboard Station. The businesses have certainly heard all the complains but I see that the Hyatt House hotel is taking reservations for October of this year. I’m hoping that means that the sidewalks will be open and the streets wide open when the temperatures start to cool later this year.

Capital Square, now called Maeve Raleigh, is looking like one of the nicer apartment buildings to be built in downtown Raleigh of this decade, I’m thinking. Since we last checked in, the windows are all in place, the tower crane is gone, and the parking deck is getting the finishing touches.

It’s not exactly a breathtaking view from the street but the Raleigh Union Station bus facility has most of the first floor poured out. Hargett Street has been closed for awhile now, and West Street is just a mess, as crews work on the future bus station that connects to the train station at Martin Street.

We’ve been following this for awhile now and the rezoning case here, which sets to change the zoning for over 700 properties on or near the upcoming Bus Rapid Transit line for New Bern Avenue, is being worked on in phases. I wanted to share my notes and provide a summary of the latest.

The Alexan apartments, with homes facing West Street and Harrington Streets, look to be almost topped out. You can really get a sense of the change this new building adds to these streets, change that was once a surface parking lot with narrow sidewalks. No more.

The North Carolina Museum of History has announced plans for upcoming renovations and will slowly close throughout 2024. The main thing to takeaway is that the museum will close to the public in October but the shop will remain open through almost the end of the year. (Dec 29) Details seem light from the announcement but they’re teasing an “exciting transformation” that will take about three years.
