  • Raleigh Union Station Bus Facility, RUS Bus

It’s not exactly a breathtaking view from the street but the Raleigh Union Station bus facility has most of the first floor poured out. Hargett Street has been closed for awhile now, and West Street is just a mess, as crews work on the future bus station that connects to the train station at Martin Street.

  • The Alexan

The Alexan apartments, with homes facing West Street and Harrington Streets, look to be almost topped out. You can really get a sense of the change this new building adds to these streets, change that was once a surface parking lot with narrow sidewalks. No more.

  • The Weld

I took this photo almost two weeks ago and it’s probably already dated. That’s because the pace at which these two towers over at The Weld are increasing is pretty rapid. Well, rapid from the lay citizen’s point-of-view anyway.

Demolition of the old Police Headquarters is now complete. Right now, foundation work has started on the East Civic Tower so expect some noise if you’re hanging out in Nash Square sometime soon. If you’re interested in following this project along more closely, you now have two resources available to you.

Have you driven up South Saunders Street lately? The apartments along the eastern side are really coming together and this angle, shown above, looks to be the signature view of the development.

  • The Alexan

Harrington and West Streets are really becoming the most densely populated area of the city. It probably is already but will be more so once the currently under-construction project, The Alexan, welcomes new neighbors. You can see in the photo above that they are at floor two of seven.

  • Raleigh Union Station Bus Facility, RUS Bus

Construction is well underway at the site of the future Union Station Bus Facility. The groundbreaking actually took place back in October 2023 but what really matters is when the crane is put in place. That’s when it feels alive and active.

The former Police Headquarters is no more. There’s a pile of materials right now at the corner of Hargett and McDowell Streets that will be cleared away soon. Let’s hope construction follows shortly for the city’s new Civic Tower.
