Next to the sidewalks of Salisbury Street, there is this plaque on the ground that states the following:
FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
BICENTENNIAL CAPSULE
BURIED JULY 4, 1976
TO BE OPENED JULY 4, 2076
The church is on the corner of Salisbury and Morgan Streets if anyone is interested in looking for it. 2076 is quite a ways out so pass this along to your kids so that they can see it being opened on our country’s 300th birthday.

that’s awesome. great find. love stuff like that. hopefully we’ll have returned to the country that we were when that capsule was buried – full of liberty, and not a socialist state.

By then downtown will be all skyscrapers and it probably will be plowed under or paved over.

@Arthur: That’s definitely a possibility. I hope that doesn’t happen though. I hope that the developer at least has the audacity to move the capsule and/or put it in the ground somewhere else.

Arthur, I doubt that…it’s on the church’s property. A well-established one that’s probably not going anywhere for another century or two. (Most of the ones around the capital square have been there since Raleigh was founded.)
