Capital Square, an apartment building with almost 300 homes, is really starting to rise over Dawson Street. This 20-story building broke ground about a year ago and had extensive work done to the foundation. However, it’s been fun to watch it go up, floor by floor, throughout 2023.

We’re starting to see more projects going vertical as compared to the more typical five or six story apartment building with a very wide footprint. In addition to Capital Square, 400 Hillsborough is a mixed-use, 20-story tower with apartments that’s wrapping up this year. We’re also waiting on the ground-breaking of Vela Longview and Salisbury Square, both relatively taller residential projects.

I’m sure the squat, stick-built developments will still happen here and there but it’s good to see us going more vertical with our residential buildings.
