I saw this new sign while walking around downtown. I promise you I have never noticed it here before. Is this really where a ‘Welcome to Raleigh’ sign should go? The sign is on Hargett St. right after crossing West St. I know the new signs for downtown have not yet been implemented so I have no idea where this came from. Correct me if I’m wrong but has this always been here?

I do think it’s new. There was talk awhile ago about downtown’s need for more and better signs. Perhaps this is a test sign.
I do agree that Hargett at West seems like a weird place to put it, seeing as downtown goes a bit further than that. And Hargett isn’t really a main road into downtown anyways. You’d expect it more, say on Hillsborough Street near Ashe Ave.
Actually, now that I think of it, I think I saw one on Glenwood, just before Peace. (Which, unlike the other one, does make more sense.) Either that or I imagined it.
What a horribly dark sign.
Yes – there is one on Glenwood as you approach Peace from Wade Ave. I noticed it the other day.
