I am not a frequent customer, but I have been there a few times. It will be a loss, although some people may argue that DD wasn’t offering anything more than Krispy Kreme and Bruegers Bagels. I hope that they relocate to another downtown location, possibly on Fayetteville Street :)
LOL!!!!! A DD closing. That is too funny.
@Ernest: That would be the best possible outcome I think. I’d like to see more regional and national chains locating on and around Fayetteville Street.
Ari, I think that national chains have a place in our downtown, as long as they do not overwhelm the locally-owned businesses. Do you know how many times I want to have a donut, but I don’t have enough time to walk from my office, or simply I have to spent most of my break just to “commute” (by foot, of course)? Hopefully, DD will choose a location somewhere on Salisbury Str, although I fear the competition from Carolina Cafe and Port City Java may make this tough. I wonder if Wilmington Str will be a better option. Considering that several eateries are located there already, a DD could make sense for those people who wish to have something sweet afterward.
Since we mentioned national chains, let me add one more: Maggiano’s Little Italy. The one at Streets at Southpoint (in Durham) would look really nice somewhere in DT Raleigh, I think. Maybe at The Edison :)
