Are you sad that Cardinal Bikeshare is no more? Of course, you’re not. Like me, I’m not sure anyone is sad to see it go as it was more trouble than it was worth and those bikes were just falling apart. The former docked bikeshare system has already been removed and we now have dockless bicycles from Lime and Spin. It’s a shame as I was super excited when the system rolled out back in 2018 but I’ve since moved on.
Once the system lost it’s primary sponsor, Citrix, the bikeshare system really did seem to start going downhill. Bikes were not maintained very much. The technology behind the whole thing, including the app, was dated. The docks just looked “shabby” and not well-maintained. It wasn’t a good look here in 2025.
With the addition of the Lime and Spin bicycles, some (all?) even being electric-assist, we have even more flexibility of getting around in alternative ways to driving. The rollout involves around 215 bicycles under a temporary pilot program through Spring 2026. It’s anticipated that after some lessons learned and community feedback, a more long-term system will be put in place starting in Summer 2026. Fantastic!
