This week, we have a not so great photo of the new sign on the Union Station Transit Facility. I thought this would be significant as we are months away from the station opening. The area looks very unfinished and future development is still to come to the area.
Plans for a residential tower have not materialized, leaving the space facing West Street empty and now boarded up. Even the sidewalk has been delivered here, indicating (at least to me) that construction on the tower is nowhere in sight. The parking for these towers would go above the station which I guess means you can build a tower above an active transit station at the same time. What a world we live in!
The next update will be once the station is open and running. It won’t look pretty but it will change the dynamic of buses coming in and out of downtown as well as our central bus hub, GoRaleigh Station.
