During the February 6, 2025 Design Review Commission meeting, there was a presentation (YouTube link here) related to the plans for the upcoming Red Hat Amphitheater, which should start construction this year. The video really speaks for itself and it’s a highly recommended watch. While the images aren’t final by any means, they do a great job of giving you a sense of what’s being built along Lenoir Street, more specifically to the south of the current amphitheater site as it sits today.
Here are a couple screen grabs from the video.

I liked the virtual walkthrough along the sidewalk. I’m not sure McDowell Street is going to feel very pleasant with a lot of traffic nearby and those narrow sidewalks but that can be enhanced at a later time if it is as worse as I think it’s going to be.
The intersection of Lenoir and McDowell is poised to be pretty cool in the future. It should be pretty active on event days as the Convention Center will be on two corners, the amphitheater on the other, and a parking deck. It’ll certainly be dead at times so for the regulars in the house, we’ll just have to make do. Still, it’s exciting to really see this come together and become a permanent amenity in downtown Raleigh.
