Raleigh vote on concert venue set – Local & State – News & Observer

City Manager Russell Allen will ask the City Council today to allocate $59,760 to design a 4,978-seat venue to host summer concerts under the Shimmer Wall. The venue, to be built on the site of the old Sir Walter Chevrolet dealership at McDowell and Lenoir streets, would cost about $1.5 million and could open as early as May of next year.

  1. I don’t love live nation, but I also don’t like 4,000 folding chairs and no tent/covering!

  2. How predictable is downtown Raleigh and city council. Another project scaled back, will look pathetic. Can’t we do anything top notch around here. I travel to other capital cities and large metro areas all the time. Why are projects moving forward in those cities and not here (DO NOT WANT TO HEAR ABOUT LENDERS OR THE CITIES BUDGET OR HALF WHITTED LOCAL DEVELOPERS)? If the city knew how to plan and select developers with experience, we would not be in this holding pattern (again, local developers who have little/NO experience with large projects).

  3. (Do not want to see ALL CAPS. It is very annoying. Good Christ, go protest if your that angry)

What about the thing across the street from the new Convention Center?
