I’m sure someone is working on a name to kind of “districtify” the area of South Saunders street and Lake Wheeler Road where Rockway Raleigh and The Weld are currently being built but for now, I’ll just refer to everything around here as Saunders Street. Until that’s more socially adopted, we should see the opening of new digs and new eats here in 2025.

The upcoming apartments at The Weld are really showing their presence on the southern side of downtown Raleigh, shown in the photo above. We may be witnessing the creation of an entirely new district with this project and nearby activity.

I took this photo almost two weeks ago and it’s probably already dated. That’s because the pace at which these two towers over at The Weld are increasing is pretty rapid. Well, rapid from the lay citizen’s point-of-view anyway.
